I will leave this site as an archive, but the data will become stale. Check out Mike's broadcast monitors to replace some of the charts from here.
I've put together a script to track ATSC signal strength, etc stats using my HDHomeRun. The basic idea is tune to a channel, wait 5 seconds, take measurements once a second for 30 seconds, then store the data for later use. I also check to make sure MythTV isn't planning to use the tuners anytime soon. The script runs every 30 minutes, the source is here, and chart formatter here. This is not currently version controlled, and the data collector has not been tested outside my home, to my knowledge.
Output is JSON encoded, for ease of use, and appended to a file based on the channel number. One newline per run of the script. I'm currently sampling the following channels:
Note: on June 9th, 2013 at approximately 10 PM, I added a splitter before the HDHomeRun; unfortunately this reduces the number of channels I can successfully receive.
Note: during the week of May 22nd, 2016, the antenna got moved around a bit during roofing work.
Future plans include: better graphs, actually capturing some of the transport data, and doing something useful with the captured data.
My antenna is a CM 4228 HD. My garage is in the Burbank neighborhood of Santa Clara county, California; near West San Carlos and Bascom. (map)
